Hello and welcome to this post. I have been a diabetic for many years and have also had questions about artificial sweeteners. I have searched the web in the past and found many scary, yet interesting articles about this topic. The best information that I learned about them came from a visit to my doctor. However, I am still a bit intrigued regarding the confusion about them. It still seems as if, after all this time that they have been around, that there it is hard to find a clear, concise answer. Anyways, lets focus more on the recipes that require only natural ingredients.
I am not for certain if stevia is considered an artificial sweetener, but I have heard from several sources that it is supposedly a natural sweetener. However, I do not know this for sure. That is definitely a question that I will ask my doctor the next time I go.
So lets get to the natural diabetic dessert recipes without artificial sweeteners. My favorite recipe that has worked for my particular case of diabetes over the years is a baked apple recipe with a slight sprinkle of cinnamon. The reason I know this is I check my blood sugar before and after. I also asked my doctor about it and was told that granny smith apples were right for me. Anyways, the recipe uses natural apples and no artificial sweeteners like splenda or sweet n low. I just chop the apple up into pieces and then put them in a small pot on the stove to simmer. Once the texture is soft and to my liking, they are done. That is really all it takes to satisfy my taste buds. I then add a small amount of cinnamon and I am happy.
